For decades, hair coloring techniques were extremely time consuming and imprecise in terms of the end result. Strawberry blonde often looked red. Those days are gone!
Today's hair coloring techniques are not only highly predictable, they can add a new dimension to your hairstyle -- impacting even the natural movement of your hair. Highlights, lowlights, Balayage ...all can enhance your face if done correctly. At the Urban Halo Arlington hair salon, our hair coloring stylists are highly trained experts in all these techniques and will help you achieve the look you want.
HAIR COLORING TECHNIQUES TO CONSIDER
Single Process Color: A new color is applied on the roots or all over to create a new base color. The hair is lifted and deposited in one easy step. It's the most common hair salon service and it's wonderful for covering grays and adding shininess to dull hair.
Foil Highlights: Whether it be a full or partial head, this weaving technique uses foils and can brighten and add shine to your hair. Highlights are most popular with shades of gold, blonde, honey, amber, and reds.
Balayage Highlights: is a French word meaning to sweep or to paint. It allows for a sun-kissed natural looking hair color. This allows softer, less noticeable regrowth lines. The principal idea being less is more when creating soft, natural looks.
Ombre: The hair world borrowed the term 'Ombre' from the french word meaning shaded or shading. Ombre hair coloring is generally darker at the roots through the mid-shaft and then gradually gets lighter from the mid-shaft to the ends. It is usually achieved using a balayage technique and is ideal for clients looking for a lower-maintenance style. By using the Balayage technique for an ombre you don't get that harsh dark-to-light, so it's a more modern version of an ombré.
Lowlights: Achieved by using color instead of a lightener. It gives a sense of depth to your hair color. It adds darker tones interchanged with natural highlights, and can add dimension to a hair color that appears dull. For lighter hair tones, try a multidimensional mix of butter, gold, and honey. This makes the color look natural—not bleached-out or over processed. Lowlights can also be used to minimize the appearance of greys in a subtle way without changing your complete appearance.
Creative Color or “Fashion Coloring”: Looking for a statement-making hair color? Whether it be peek-a-boo strands or a Technicolor masterpiece fashion shades may initially require lift for a controlled base. This service requires a prior consultation to the service date.
Glossing is a hair coloring technique that brightens hair color by applying a "glaze" of a richer tone over a permanent shade.
